Call for Papers

We invite submissions of position paper proposals or research articles (abstract of max 500 words) related to data donation for research purposes.

Topics of Interest

  • Challenges: Ethics, regulations, privacy, and consent
  • Technical infrastructure: Data donation platforms, data linkage, data sharing, decantalization
  • Future directions: DSA, DMA, Data Portabitiy APIs, from donations to streaming?
  • Data sharing: Governance models and data stewardship
  • The user: experience and trust
  • Data donations in empirical research: Case studies
  • Data donations plus: Data linkage studies including data donations

Submission Types

Position Paper Proposals

Novel ideas, perspectives, or arguments related to data donation for research purposes (max. 500 words).

Research Articles

Original research contributions. Submit an abstract without identifying information (max. 500 words, excluding references, tables, and figures).

Formatting Requirements

  • Submissions must be in PDF format
  • Submissions must be anonymized for double-blind review
  • Abstract: without identifying information (max. 500 words, excluding references, tables, and figures)
  • Include all figures, tables, and references

Abstract Requirements

The abstract should clarify:

  • Research goal
  • Key questions
  • Research design (if applicable)
  • Relation to data donation

Authors can but do not have to include results in the abstract. If authors do not include results, they need to clearly state the status of the project and the anticipated timeline for finalizing results.

Review Process

  • All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process
  • At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present at the symposium

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: May 31, 2026
  • Notification of Acceptance: July 1, 2026
  • Symposium Date: October 1–2, 2026

Venue

The symposium will take place at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin, Germany, organized by the Digital News Dynamics research group.
